The Ferrers School Aspire, Achieve, Acclaim

    Admissions

The Ferrers School is regularly over-subscribed.  Our Admissions Policy meets the requirements of the DfE Code of Practice (February 2007) for schools which are over-subscribed.

The school is a co-educational Academy for students aged 11-18.  It is expected that all applicants for entry will support the distinctive ethos, policies and procedures of the School.   The School can admit up to 180 students in any one year group.

    Year 7 entry

Admissions paperwork is issued via primary schools to all students during the autumn term of the school year preceding their entry into Year 7.

Following the allocation of places to pupils who have a statement of special educational needs which names the School as appropriate provision, if the School is over-subscribed, places are allocated using the admissions criteria applied in the following priority order:

    1. Children in the care of the Local Authority (Looked After Children)
    2. Sibling link – where a brother or sister is continuing at The Ferrers School at the time of admission of the younger child.
    3. Children who attend Higham Ferrers Junior School or Henry Chichele Primary School and continue in attendance until the final offer of places is made.
    4. Children who live within the designated area, i.e: Higham Park, Chelveston-cum-Caldecott, Higham Ferrers and Rushden who live closer to The Ferrers School than any other school.
    5. Children who live within the designated area.
    6. Children who live outside the designated area.

    Tiebreaker:

If there is any over-subscription in any of the categories, preference will be given to those who live closest to the School than any other school.  This is measured on a straight line basis from their home address to the entrance of the School

    In-Year Applications

Parents who wish to apply to change their child’s school during the school year will need to ask their current school to complete the In-Year Application form and return it to that school.  The In-Year Application form is available here: www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/admissions

    Students moving into the area

Where a child is moving into the area and needs a school place, parents will also need to apply for an in-year school place through School Admissions at Northamptonshire County Council.  The Admissions team require a confirmed address and moving date before they can process the application.

Where School Admissions are unable to allocate a place at a parent’s preferred school, there is an option to be added to the school's waiting list.
