The Ferrers School Aspire, Achieve, Acclaim

    Curriculum Leader: Mr R Mosdell

In Humanities, students are encouraged to reflect on the world around them, to understand how they interact with the environment and others, as well as how the past impacts upon the present.   We want students to enjoy their learning so use a wide range of methods and resources.  Some lessons will be traditional and teacher led, others will involve individual research and ICT, others will encourage the students to get actively involved in simulation exercises and role-play.  Model making and independent project work is also encouraged as a means by which to learn and show knowledge and understanding.

History, Geography and R.E. are taught as separate subjects at The Ferrers by subject specialists.  Geography and History are also offered as GCSE options subjects at Key Stage 4 and always prove to be very popular choices

The Humanities department plays a key role delivering Citizenship throughout the school and students are supported to formulate their own informed opionions.

The Humanities department offer a variety of subjects at AS and A2 Level including Geography, History, Philosophy and Ethics, Law and Psychology.   At Sixth Form, Humanities subjects are also very popular choices each year, with many students enthusiastic to continue their studies from GCSE into A Level, or to try something new in the case of Psychology and Law.

    Subject Champions 2014 - Philosophy & Ethics

Ryan Chaplin: I find being Subject Champion really rewarding.  Knowing that I have helped younger students to understand often complicated topics really makes me happy.

Shannon Wilson: P&E is my favourite Sixth Form subject.  We can consistently bring our own opinions to arguments which are really relevant to today's society.  We express our own beliefs without judgement and the work is so intriguing and interesting.  I would definitely recommend this subject.
