The Ferrers School Aspire, Achieve, Acclaim

    Expressive Arts

    Curriculum Leader: Mrs L Atkins

“Arts subjects HAVE academic content.  Their creative side simply makes them broader, not more lightweight or less valuable.  It is also well observed that an arts education enhances academic achievement.  Learning a musical instrument forges more connections between left and right side of the brain, and dancers develop brilliant memories.”    Creative Pages, Autumn 2013

The Expressive Arts curriculum area prides itself on delivering a varied curriculum by experienced teachers who have a passion about the subjects they teach. In total, The Ferrers School offers six subjects at the following levels.

    • Key Stage 3:  Art, Dance, Drama and Music
    • Key Stage 4: GCSE Art , Dance, Drama, Media and Music / BTEC Level 2 Dance and Production
    • Key Stage 5:  AS/A2 Art, Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Music Technology / Level 3 Certificate Contemporary Music

In addition to the curriculum, a wide range of extra-curricular activities are available in all areas ranging from a  Choir to the Enigma Dance Company, Guitar Club to Art projects and Drama Clubs, together with an extensive range of after school support sessions for students at all Key Stages.

Annually there are whole school showcases and performance evenings within each individual Arts discipline.  As students progress through the school they are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the Expressive Arts area and become part of the Arts Squad. The Squad organise and deliver large events with support of mentors, including the main school production which, for 2017, will be "West Side Story".
